Sirr Guy Shakir is Castaic High School's new head football coach for the 2023 season. Aside from his extensive coaching background, Coach Shakir has been a highly regarded, respected, and student-centered teacher in the Hart District for over 20 years. Coach Shakir has a Bachelor of Science in Health Education and a Master of Science in Kinesiology. Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, Coach Shakir, and his family have resided in Santa Clarita since 1998.
From a football perspective, Coach Shakir brings over 25 years of coaching experience to Coyote Football. He has coached at the youth, high school, and junior college levels. Locally, he has coached at Canyon High and College of The Canyons.
Before coming to Castaic High, Coach Shakir served as the secondary coach at COC. While at Pierce College, he was the Defensive Coordinator, Assistant Head Coach, and Linebackers Coach. Before coaching at the junior college level, he was the Defensive Coordinator at Van Nuys High and coached defensive backs/running backs at Canyon High School. He has also volunteered throughout the Santa Clarita Valley's youth football programs coaching the SCV Wildcats and SCV Grizzlies.

John Mears
Coach Mears brings 20 years of high school coaching experience to the Coyote program. He recently completed his eighth year coaching football at Saugus High School after previous stints at L.A. Baptist, Granada Hills, Alemany, Paraclete, and Lancaster high schools.
Coach Mears has lived in Valencia for sixteen years with his wife Janel, who is a kindergarten teacher. Coach Mears’ son Kyle graduated from Saugus as a multi-sport athlete in 2012. His daughter, Jenna, was the placekicker for the Varsity football team in 2013, the same season she was named Homecoming Queen. Coach Mears also has two stepdaughters – Hannah, who attends Moorpark’s Exotic Animal Training Program, and Chloe, who attends Chapman University.
Coach Mears graduated from CSU Northridge with a degree in Economics. In his life away from football, Coach Mears is a Registered Investment Advisor. His father, who played football at UCLA, raised him to root for the Bruins in both football and basketball. He has also been a dedicated Angels baseball fan since 1972.
